December 3, 2024 (Tampa, FL) – Another prospective Trump appointee has withdrawn only three days after being nominated by the president-elect. In a post on X, saying he has much work left to do in Hillsborough County, Sheriff Chad Chronister wrote, “To be nominated by President-Elect Donald J. Trump to serve as Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration is the honor of a lifetime,” Chronister wrote. “Over the past several days, as the gravity of this very important responsibility set in, I’ve concluded that I must respectfully withdraw from consideration.”

Some Republicans have been grumbling that Chronister may not really be a Republican. Many MAGA are still upset with him for enforcing the COVID-19 local lockdown in the early days of the pandemic and arresting a Tampa-area pastor for defying the lockdown ordinance. CNN reported that Trump wrote on Truth Social after the story came out that “‘He didn’t pull out, I pulled him out, because I did not like what he said to my pastors and other supporters.’”

Many critics of the president-elect feel Chronister should not have been nominated because of his unconvincing qualifications. He is also the son-in-law of a wealthy man, Edward DeBartolo Jr., the former owner of the San Francisco 49ers who received a presidential pardon from Trump four years ago.
